Chapter 130: PROJECTION
Chapter 130: PROJECTION
"Daniel, do you have any plan?" the other asked as he tried to steady his breathing.
Daniel looked at his friend with a furrowed, confused face.
"What do you mean plan?" he asked. "The only thing I can think of now, David, is to attack with all our strength and expect to win."
David sighed, then clasped his two axes together.
"Okay then, don’t die on me."
Those words were the trigger.
They lunged. Together.
David struck first, aether flooding his entire body as he swung his left axe towards Levi’s neck.
Levi caught the attack with the flat of his blade, then pushed back before David could attack with his other axe.
David somersaulted through space, finding his balance quickly.
Daniel had closed the gap between him and Levi.
His hammer swung down, a tremor passing through the space as it roared along it.
Levi caught it with his free hand.
Daniel pulled.
The hammer did not budge.
A mote of blue formed beside Levi.
The searing heat it emanated was enough to make Daniel shudder.
"Fuck," he yelled as he realized what it was.
And at that moment, he made a decision.
The mote of blue shot forward, cutting through space as it drilled a hole through their spaceship behind.
Daniel looked back at their spaceship.
Then at his hammer, still held within Levi’s palm.
Levi flung the hammer away and focused on both of them.
"This is basically suicide," David reminded Daniel.
"I know," Daniel replied. "But we have to do it nonetheless, even if we can only manage to hold it back till Patrick comes back."
Levi’s projection lunged, not giving them time to think.
David met him.
His aether flared as he tapped into the power of one of his cores.
Levi’s body dipped, buckling under the weight of an increased gravity.
Daniel did not waste time; he capitalized on the advantage, pressing forward with the ferociousness of a crazed beast.
He swung his hammer down, over Levi’s head.
A massive pillar of light followed the hammer as it descended.
Levi raised his head, only catching the blinding light and hammer before he reacted.
His core hummed with a frequency that resonated with the space they floated in.
An arrow of flames formed over his head, whistling upward to meet the hammer and pillar.
Boom.
Space cracked.
Not metaphorically.
The space they stood in began to fracture from the force of their collision.
Daniel’s body was hurled back like a ragdoll.
His body began to break, cracks of white light appearing along its surface.
But he regained control quickly, flooding his body with aether to unmake the cracks.
Levi looked back at the Academy spaceship.
The tremor had sent it flying through space, only managing to balance itself due to the AI system.
David had moved in that short window, his two axes coming over Levi’s head.
Levi’s head snapped towards David.
A calm swing of his sword, something that felt too calm and casual, like he was swatting a fly.
But the power behind the attack suggested otherwise.
David pivoted at the last moment, the arc of plasma passing his side.
His body launched backward again, narrowly avoiding another slash.
He did not wait; he pressed forward.
Thousands of sword arcs descended from the sky, each one targeting David like a missile.
A smirk formed along David’s lips as he transformed into water. His body weaved through the arcs with the fluidity of liquid.
The gap was closed within a few breaths.
He transformed back, darkness coiling along his axes’ blades as he swung both from opposite sides towards Levi’s torso.
Clang.
The axes struck each other’s blades, meeting empty space.
David blinked. He creased his forehead, confused.
A whistle tore through the air from behind.
His body moved on instinct, tilting to the side at the last moment.
It did not matter.
The sound of flesh parting filled Levi’s ears, but it did not make him bat an eye.
The sword passed through David’s chest.
It targeted all his cores specifically, a strike that was as precise as possible, to end David in one move.
David’s eyes widened as he gazed at Levi.
His mouth opened, as if to say something.
But the words could not form.
His grip began to loosen against the axe’s hilt, slowly.
Until the axe fell off completely.
Daniel’s face fell as he looked at David, the shock almost paralyzing.
He watched in despair as David’s four cores disintegrated into dust that drifted along with the void of space.
Levi did not waste time watching David’s body as it drifted further into the void.
His gaze shifted to Daniel.
He was gone.
Levi furrowed his brows, then he heard it, the ringing sound that came from behind.
His head twisted, but there was nothing.
Levi ducked.
The space above him exploded, breaking like fragile glass.
Levi came up quickly, swinging his sword in the direction the attack had come from.
Nothing.
He looked around again, but found no one.
It felt like Daniel had simply stopped existing.
He stilled his mind.
The temperature dropped at once.
Everything in a wide radius felt the drop in an instant.
Crystals began to form from the void itself.
One thing stood different as the chill continued to increase.
A solid figure of ice that stood just over Levi.
A massive hammer that was a breath away from his head.
Levi looked at the figure, then unsheathed his sword.
A sharp sound filled the space as thousands of cuts appeared across the figure’s surface.
Levi exhaled lightly, then turned away from the broken ice fragments.
He turned towards the Academy ship.
His gaze pierced through the distance, looking at the students vividly.
Then he turned towards the enemy spaceship.
It was still occupied by enemies, albeit weaker than the ones already deployed.
These ones were more like engineers and pilots for the spaceship.
Either way, Levi was not going to let them go.
They also needed a few captives for questioning.
Levi flickered along the void of space, crossing the gap in a breath.
