Master Craftsman of the Pokémon World

Chapter 572 - 572: 570

Chapter 572 - 572: 570

Being taken by an oni to go slay an oni?Carmine thought it sounded completely absurd, but Kieran was thrilled. The fear in the little boy's heart gradually faded, because he had realized that the "oni" really was not as terrifying as people in the legends said. He was not a bad person.

And on top of that, hidden in the ancient history of Mossui Town, there was actually a real "evil oni"!

Just thinking about that made Kieran's whole body tremble.

Part of it was fear, but part of it was excitement too.

Had his dream of becoming friends with an oni... actually come true?

"Way too cool~!" Kieran said. "It's like I'm really inside a legend!"

Carmine gritted her teeth and glared at him. "Kiki! Seriously, what is wrong with you?! This is absolutely terrifying right now!"

She was shaking like a leaf too, sitting behind Hikaru on Miraidon with Kieran wedged between them. She was protecting her brother in the middle, while also trying not to touch Hikaru any more than necessary. The girl was truly scared out of her mind.

Even if the oni said the curse had nothing to do with him, the people at the Kitakami Center really had turned into zombies. Oni fighting oni, ghosts and evil spirits - what in the world had happened to Kitakami?!

"No wonder tourism here isn't great! So the curse passed down in this place was real after all! It's just that the real evil spirit was something else entirely! The evil oni is a Pokémon!"

Carmine mumbled nervously. Behind her sat someone else too.

Of course, that was Ogerpon.

Miraidon could only comfortably carry three people, but since Carmine and Kieran were still kids, and Ogerpon was about the size of a child too, the four of them could barely squeeze on together.

Invisible Victini was perched on top of Miraidon's head as well.

At that moment, even Miraidon was sweating.

This feels kind of overloaded!

So that's what Genesect is for, huh? I do like being ridden, but this is way too many passengers!

Still... it feels pretty great getting ridden like this!

". . . So that's your personality. Well, I guess that makes sense. You're the future form of Cyclizar, after all, so liking being used as a mount is probably just in your genes. But saying something like that in this situation is a little..."

Hikaru could not help commenting.

Miraidon launched straight into the air from the Oni's Den, carrying everyone with it. Hikaru raised a psychic barrier to keep the rain off them.

By now it was fully dark. With the light drizzle, no stars, and no moon, there was no way to see the distance clearly. But Miraidon's eyes were built with future technology, so it spotted the people moving on the mountain almost immediately.

They looked suspicious, their bodies stiff, and most unsettling of all, they were moving fast.

They were carrying something that glittered in their hands.

And they were already heading back down the mountain.

"These are the people who chased you two up here from the Infernal Pass side of the mountain, right?"

"Y-yeah, that's right! But..." Kieran leaned out from behind Hikaru and looked at the villagers striding rapidly downhill, their bodies stiff like zombies. The fear in his heart was impossible to suppress, and he nodded frantically like a pecking chick. "My sister and I hid inside a cave. It was Onifang Cavern. They... they didn't find us."

Hikaru said, "But from the looks of it, they weren't trying to find you. They were trying to get something from the mountain... and now they've already finished."

Those villagers had been controlled, yet they could still move quickly because the special poison stimulated their physical abilities. In other words, right now they were basically all like Okidogi.

That detail had shown up in the original epilogue story too. Kieran and Juliana had gone to enormous trouble to run all the way back to the Kitakami Center, yet those controlled townspeople had started later and still kept right on their heels. That meant their running speed was at least twice what it normally was, and among them were plenty of old men and elderly people.

"It's like a horror movie. S-so scary!"

Carmine's face was pale. "I've only ever seen stuff like this in films at the community center. A-and now... now it's real!"

"The Loyal Three, where are the Loyal Three...? If you're the 'oni,' then what really happened between you and the Loyal Three back then?"

Hikaru turned and glanced at Carmine, while Ogerpon, sitting at the very back, wore a complicated expression.

"The so-called Loyal Three is just what your people started calling them. Didn't I already say that near the Kitakami Center?"

"If you keep spreading false legends around carelessly, then when something goes wrong in the future, are you going to take responsibility for it?"

"The Loyal Three were never the oni's companions. And the story that they sealed away the oni's power is completely false too. In reality, they were the true evil oni's companions."

"They came to Kitakami because they wanted the shining masks the oni once possessed. To steal the masks, they came here and killed the oni's beloved friend."

"So the enraged oni charged down Oni Mountain and beat all three of them to death with her weapon. But the villagers never understood what had actually happened. Because they feared outsiders and rejected them from the beginning, they already disliked the oni and her beloved friend, so they convinced themselves that the Loyal Three had protected the village."

"And during all that, the real evil oni was defeated by the oni too. It hid itself away, right inside the village, waiting in fear and unease for time to pass and for the chance to revive someday."

"Rejecting outsiders... interesting, isn't it? Were there humans on this land from the very beginning? Weren't your own people migrants from somewhere else too?"

That same tendency had appeared in ancient Sinnoh with the Galaxy Team as well. Wasn't it strange if you thought about it?

The Pearl Clan, who were actually native to Hisui, had accepted a suspicious outsider like Rei.

But the Galaxy Team, who were themselves outsiders that had crossed the sea to come there, rejected the next newcomer. In the end, they had all come from elsewhere. The only difference was that Rei had "fallen from the sky."

Carmine shrank into herself. The usually aggressive girl had gone completely quiet. Her thoughts were in total chaos, and she was deeply shaken.

Kieran, meanwhile, went still for a moment, then his eyes began to shine.

"I-I knew it. The oni was on the right side all along...! I never really liked the Loyal Three that much anyway."

Hikaru said, "A wrong was done in the past, and now this is karmic retribution? ...So yes. Kitakami has fallen."

If nobody dealt with Pecharunt, then it really could be treated as though this town had already been destroyed.

Everyone had become poison puppets.

When Pokémon are controlled by the poison, Toxic Chains grow from their bodies and they get brainwashed into obedience. Humans were basically no different, just like the old man and old woman who once raised Pecharunt.

And because Pecharunt had no understanding of the modern world, it would probably use those people to go around stealing nice things until eventually it ran into some villainous organization or heroic protagonist, got beaten senseless, and fell dormant again.

After all, protagonists and boss villains alike had plot armor levels of good luck. There was no way they were going to be the ones eating suspicious poisoned mochi.

But for ordinary people, that was a disaster.

If the poison stayed inside human bodies too long, they would probably end up like the Loyal Three, becoming beings that fully coexisted with the toxin. At that point, they could no longer really be called normal humans.

"Even though the Pokémon world has all kinds of strange humans - psychics, martial arts masters, mediums, time-lost wanderers, immortals, even aliens... I don't think 'poison humans' have shown up yet."

"After Pecharunt disappears, this would probably get classified across the regions as some kind of bizarre infectious disease."

That was what Hikaru was thinking.

After hearing his assessment, the siblings who had narrowly escaped disaster did not even know what to say.

"K-Kitakami... fell?" Kieran said. "I... I don't really understand what that means..."

"It means exactly what it sounds like," Hikaru explained. "No metaphor, no hidden meaning. The scene in front of us is exactly that."

"If we go back to Mossui Town, the people there are probably all controlled already too."

"Waaah! Grandpa! Grandma!" Kieran suddenly thought of his grandparents and pleaded, "Mr. Oni, my grandpa and grandma are still in town. C-could you save them?"

Hikaru replied, "What makes you think your grandpa wouldn't be controlled too? Although... now that I think about it, your grandpa really does seem like the type who wouldn't just eat random things."

Kieran blinked. "Huh? How do you know that...? Grandpa is a really serious person..."

Hikaru shook his head. In the Kitakami DLC, the only character with completely normal values and a genuinely lawful-good disposition was probably the siblings' grandfather, Yukito.

As a descendant of the mask maker, he had once helped Ogerpon and inherited the true story and legend about the oni. But Yukito did not know anything about Pecharunt, so in the DLC, although he was not controlled at first, his wife was. She then asked him to eat the mochi.

Because he trusted his wife, Yukito ate the mochi. You could say he was the one person who got controlled voluntarily rather than by force.

So there really was a good chance Kieran's grandpa was still normal.

"No problem," Hikaru said. "Because the place where that evil oni is probably hiding... we have to pass over Mossui Town in the air to get there anyway. Don't worry. It's on the way."

The siblings both silently prayed in their hearts that their grandparents would be safe. Then Carmine, still frightened, asked Hikaru,

"So... where is that real evil oni?"

"If you're the 'oni' from the legend of Oni Mountain, then you should know where the evil oni is, right? And if the Loyal Three were the evil oni's companions back then... then there's this place in Kitakami where we worship the Loyal Three. Could the evil oni be there?"

"You mean Loyalty Plaza? That's exactly the place I'm talking about."

With a single sentence, Hikaru confirmed Carmine's guess. Seeing the shock on her face, he laughed a little.

"I already told you, I know this place pretty well."

"R-right! Because you're the oni, of course you'd know it well! Though... Mr. Oni, it's pretty weird that you're a ghost and still have Pokémon."

Kieran turned his head and noticed the little orange one sitting at the back. Since Ogerpon was not wearing a mask, she did not match the legendary image of the oni, so Kieran did not realize that she herself was the true oni.

Ogerpon blinked at him and smiled.

"Boni-o!"

"H-hello! You're really cute..."

Kieran smiled too, sincerely thinking the little orange one was adorable.

Even now, both siblings still believed that Hikaru was the "oni," not some Pokémon beside him.

Kieran was even imagining all sorts of things.

Could it be that the oni's beloved friend had been killed by the evil oni long ago, so he became a lingering spirit and waited all the way until today to take revenge?

Then wasn't that basically a legendary revenge story?

Waiting hundreds of years just to avenge someone!

The more Kieran imagined it, the more excited he became.

"S-so cool!"

Carmine, on the other hand, looked dejected.

"I can't believe the oni really was the righteous side, and the Loyal Three were the evil ones. I don't want to accept it, but after seeing all this... there's no way I can deny it!"

"That evil oni is the worst! I hate it so much!"

Carmine clenched her fists. Even though this whole thing had started because she had blocked the oni earlier, there was no way she was going to forgive the evil oni who had spread the curse.

When people are furious enough, they can do almost anything.

Anything except math.

Miraidon flew high through the rainy night, and soon they saw the brightly lit Mossui Town below. Dark silhouettes were wandering all around the village, dancing in grotesque ways.

"Grandpa... Grandpa isn't among them!"

Miraidon flew a little lower so the siblings could see the scene clearly.

"Ah! That's Grandma!"

Yukito was not there, but their grandmother was in the crowd. She was dancing, and an eerie aura radiated from her body.

"Looks like she already ate the poisoned mochi."

Hikaru's expression turned grave, and he explained in detail to the pale-faced siblings.

"The so-called poisoned mochi is that evil oni's power. You can also call it chain mochi."

"It has a peach-shaped shell, and that shell is its poison reservoir. It kneads the toxin secreted from the shell into chain mochi for humans and Pokémon to eat. Once they eat it, it uses chains to control them."

"Chain mochi is not only delicious, it also has the effect of drawing out the eater's hidden desires and potential. Someone weak becomes unbelievably strong. Someone stupid becomes exceptionally clever. An ugly creature becomes beautiful."

"That's why some people say receiving the poisonous peach brings great happiness. But that's just the delirious dream of a puppet being turned into a servant by Toxic Chains. After losing the fight over the masks against the oni, that thing sealed itself up inside its shell."

"Pecha Berries are antidote berries. But the Mythical Pokémon with the form of a peach is the source of nightmare poison and fear in the heart."

"Ah... ah..." Carmine suddenly realized something, then looked at Kieran in horror. "Kiki! Isn't this exactly what Grandma Peachy was talking about, about wishes and happiness coming true...?"

Kieran's hair practically stood on end. "I-it wasn't me wishing for that! I... I just wanted to meet the oni! I didn't want to meet an evil oni!"

Carmine said, "B-but... in this form, your wish kind of did come true. You really did meet the oni... except it came at the cost of reviving the evil oni too... Ugh... Grandma Peachy said that was just a made-up story. How could it be real..."

"The whole town's done for! It's all over! No, no, no!"

Hikaru said, "The story was fake, and the legend of the evil oni never spread through Kitakami. But the Everlasting Peach was real!"

"You two must have played at Peachy's before, right? Did you ever notice that purple ornament sitting outside the shop, the one that looked like some kind of mascot?"

"That was the evil oni."

It was such an ordinary fact, yet hearing it made the siblings feel a fresh wave of nameless fear.

Over the years, they had passed by the evil oni again and again without ever realizing it. And when Carmine remembered how she had even picked the thing up and examined it before, she nearly fainted on the spot.

Hikaru thought that was a perfectly normal reaction.

In the epilogue story, Carmine was the first one who got controlled, so she never really had time to process what was happening. Kieran, meanwhile, seeing people getting controlled one after another, had nearly lost it and whispered in fear, "I'm next."

If Juliana had not been there as the protagonist-type chosen one to anchor things, Kitakami really would have been wiped out by Pecharunt.

And this time, the power Pecharunt displayed, and the scale of its influence, were even more terrifying and much faster than in the original epilogue.

And Terastal energy was definitely involved in that too.

So it was not exactly the "wish-granting machine" Hikaru had once guessed, but in truth, Terastal power could influence many different things.

"Boni-o..."

Watching all this, Ogerpon felt complicated. The people of Kitakami had never liked her, but this was still a place she had once known.

The Festival of Masks had really been fun.

But now, there was nothing left.

"C-can they be woken back up now?" Kieran asked.

Hikaru answered, "Defeat the evil oni, and the poison will disappear on its own. This toxin is directly tied to the evil oni's own power. Your grandma was affected, but your grandpa still hasn't shown up, which means he's probably fine."

"So if the evil oni isn't in Mossui Town, that means everyone here has already been controlled. It has to be at Loyalty Plaza!"

Mossui Town was the only route leading to the plaza, so no matter what, they had to fly over it. And just then, the controlled townspeople below noticed Miraidon flying overhead.

"Jibeh... jibeh jibeh!"

Those people threw Poké Balls. All kinds of Pokémon were summoned out and, following the orders of their puppet-like Trainers, launched attacks at Miraidon.

"Waaah! Pokémon attacks! We're gonna crash!" Kieran yelped.

"Kiki, shut up!" Carmine snapped. "We are not crashing!"

"Of course we're not crashing that easily," Hikaru said. "Attacks on this level are nowhere near enough. At the end of the day, there are only eight actual strong Trainers in this whole place!"

"It's time to purge the evil in this world. These people showed up at just the right moment."

He raised his wrist. The device on it lit up, and a Poké Ball opened.

"Urshifu, battle!"

Kubfu!

To become a divine messenger that sweeps all evil from the world...

What better training could there be than fighting a bunch of poison puppets like these?

Kubfu's eyes shone with determination.

Its Ability, No Guard, had good points and bad ones. The downside was that no matter the situation, it would always be hit by the opponent's moves.

That meant it had to endure a huge amount of damage and pain in order to knock down all these enemies.

But that was fine.

Without pain, there could be no growth!

Kubfu tightened its muscles.

Bulk Up!

When the attacks came flying in, Kubfu took them head-on.

I see. A Poison Jab with a poisoning effect.

The enemy attacking it was an Ariados.

But a move like that alone...

A Fighting-type of course had a way to answer!

Light blazed in Kubfu's eyes as it gathered all its chi and unleashed a retaliatory strike in one burst.

"Counter!"

Any physical attack it takes gets returned at double the power!

The gray little bear's fighting spirit surged like a crashing sea, and with a thunderous blow, it sent the giant spider flying. Its Trainer was blasted backward too.

Its aura erupted. Kubfu stamped down and charged toward the second Pokémon.

It was a Victreebel.

A Grass/Poison type. It resisted Fighting twofold, but Kubfu was not limited to Fighting techniques alone.

The little bear curled its claws.

Flying power - Aerial Ace!

Like a force of nature, Kubfu tore through the field, defeating one Pokémon after another. Sitting on low-flying Miraidon, Carmine and Kieran were both staring with wide eyes.

"S-so strong! It looks so small and unremarkable too..."

"How can that Pokémon be this strong?! Is this a Pokémon raised by the oni?!"

Hikaru said, "My Kubfu has spared no effort in its training so it can become a divine messenger. For it, a battlefield like this is the perfect training ground."

Other than the eight strongest trainers in Kitakami, the rest of the region's strength in the games was basically inflated by postgame mechanics. In reality, these were just ordinary villagers.

"Once their Pokémon are beaten, they lose their ability to fight. But as poison puppets, their instinct will still make them try to block anyone who hasn't been turned into one of them. So after beating them..."

"Shedinja, Sandstorm!"

Hikaru had Shedinja use its delightfully self-destructive little trick. Wearing dust goggles, Shedinja happily whipped up a sandstorm.

The light rain was overwritten, and Mossui Town was swallowed by blowing sand.

But just then...

A beam of light suddenly burst out from the sandstorm and shot toward Shedinja!

Thunderbolt!

But the electricity vanished the instant it neared Shedinja. Shedinja slowly turned and stared toward the direction the attack had come from.

Just stared.

"Useless. Under Wonder Guard, that move has no effect at all."

Hikaru saw who had used the move. Among the dancing villagers was someone wearing a mask.

"Waaah... th-that's someone from the Kitakami Ogre Clan!"

Carmine recognized the newcomer. It was a female elite Trainer with three Pokémon.

Raichu, Nosepass, and Luxray!

At this point in time, she did not yet have a fourth Pokémon, and her Nosepass had not evolved yet.

"The Kitakami Ogre Clan. One of the eight top Trainers: Raikiri. Her training ground is the cliffside cave north of Mossui Town, near the waterfall on Oni Mountain."

Rolling waters emerge from the oni's mouth. Where the narrow crack by the water lies, there she is.

"Of course she got controlled."

"Ogerpon, want to try fighting with your masks again? It's been a while."

"Boni!"

Ogerpon looked down, ready for battle.

She was going to help Kubfu!

Miraidon glided low and let Ogerpon jump off.

Masked Rider Ogerpon, entering the battlefield!

"Jibeh... jibeh jibeh!"

Raikiri sent out Raichu. What puzzled Hikaru was that even though she could no longer give proper commands, her Pokémon still seemed able to understand her somehow.

Maybe the "Jibeh language" spoken by people controlled by Pecharunt was itself some kind of special Pokémon language.

Raichu used Double Team!

Its evasion rose!

Raichu used Double Team again and again!

Its evasion rose even higher!

"Gao?"

Ogerpon looked at the shadowy copies all around her, took out her cudgel, and had no idea which one to hit.

At that moment, Shedinja floated up beside her at the snap of Hikaru's fingers. Its eyes glimmered faintly as it used a move.

"Shedinja, Telekinesis!"

Bzzzt.

A psychic force appeared and seized every single illusion.

Telekinesis was a psychic technique that even human psychics could learn. Hikaru had learned it from Caitlin, and now he had taught it to Shedinja, which could use the move.

"So. A Pokémon caught in Telekinesis becomes immune to Ground-type moves and won't be affected by Arena Trap, Toxic Spikes, Spikes, Sticky Web, or other terrain-based status effects."

"But."

"If it's hit by any move other than a one-hit KO move, that move will always connect."

"Ogerpon, mask change - Fire!"

Ability: Mold Breaker!

Unaffected by the opponent's Ability when using moves!

Ogerpon broke the mold!

"Boni!"

Ogerpon grinned mischievously. She had found the real one among the shadows!

Shedinja really was an amazing Pokémon.

It never thought about anything, but in battle it was such a dependable friend!

Ogerpon put on the Hearthflame Mask, the mask that symbolized raw power.

Fire represented the ultimate offense. The Hearthflame Mask represented wrath, and its design was based on the lion-mouthed style among oni masks, with flames like a lion's mane. Drawn from the image of a lion grinding its teeth in fury, it symbolized a mighty wrathful deity!

"Ivy Cudgel - Fire!"

Ogerpon swung her cudgel and blasted Raichu straight into a raging blaze!

Ivy Thunderclap!

Battle over!

The Ogerpon who had once defeated the Loyal Three and Pecharunt had lost none of her strength after all these centuries. And with the training she had done in dreams and in the Reverse World, ordinary Pokémon were no match for her at all.

"Jibeh... jibeh!"

When Raikiri saw Raichu get one-shot, she hurriedly tried to send out Nosepass. But Nosepass did not move at all.

Then, under the sandstorm, it toppled over like a statue with a heavy crash.

"Battle!"

Kubfu's fist blazed with chi.

"Dynamic Punch!"

A Rock-type Pokémon, hit by a Fighting move it was weak to twofold. One punch nearly shattered Nosepass's whole body.

"Hmph!"

Kubfu tightened the headband on its forehead.

This was not an official match. No one was going to politely fight you one-on-one until all your Pokémon were down. If all your Pokémon lose the ability to battle, that means we win.

And in that tiny opening...!

"Boni!"

Ogerpon's second strike came down!

Luxray had no ability to resist either. Thunder Fang could not do any meaningful damage to Fire/Grass Ogerpon, and with a crash it too was knocked out cold.

Fire/Grass typing. Double resistance to Electric!

"Jibeh... jibeh..."

All three Pokémon lost the ability to battle in an instant, and Raikiri let her arms fall limp, seeming no longer able to move. But at that moment, Hikaru did not stop the assault.

"Shedinja... use Giga Impact on that Trainer."

Shedinja turned into a tremendous impact wave and slammed Raikiri away, knocking the Trainer herself unconscious.

"She's one of Kitakami's top eight. If she gets back up later and starts interfering, that'll be a huge pain. Knocking her out directly is much more convenient."

Hikaru's move of directly attacking the Trainer left Carmine and Kieran completely dumbfounded.

But... this really was not the time to be worrying about something like that.

It was not an official battle anyway.

Then Kieran noticed the little orange one's name.

"O-Ogerpon?"

Hikaru glanced at him. "What? Does her name bother you?"

Kieran thought about it. "Yeah... it just sounds like the perfect name for an oni..."

From the skies above Mossui Town, they could already see the direction of Loyalty Plaza.

The three of them looked into the distance.

There, a beam of light shot straight into the sky!

Loyalty Plaza had gathered a huge crowd too.

Among the many people controlled by Pecharunt's chain mochi, six masked young people stood out in particular.

The Kitakami Ogre Clan. Their names were all taken from legendary swords.

Other than Raikiri, the remaining seven were here.

Masamune, Hasebe, Kunitsuna, Kanemitsu, Munechika, Kotetsu, and Muramasa.

They had originally been nothing more than festival role-players. They battled only to entertain children during the Festival of Masks. But before they knew it, they had trained themselves to an extremely high level, to the point that ever since the Ogre Clan was formed, nobody had ever successfully cleared their festival challenge. They truly deserved the title of elite Trainers.

"Pecha, pecha~dai~!"

In front of the stone statues of the Loyal Three, Pecharunt threw down crystals brought from Crystal Pool and began muttering and calling out.

If what those humans said was true...

Then revive, my servants!

The Tera crystals taken from Crystal Pool burst with blinding light, and as if responding to Pecharunt's wish, the stone statues of the Loyal Three began to tremble violently!

In a burst of purple poisonous radiance, the statues and grave markers exploded apart. Dust swirled everywhere, and the three ancient Pokémon revealed themselves once more.

Okidogi. Munkidori. Fezandipiti.

"Dogi-dof!"

"Monkidori!"

"Fezan!"

Pecharunt was overjoyed to see the three poisonous beasts revived.

Now all of Kitakami is under my control, and with you three as my vanguard generals, crushing Ogerpon and taking back the four masks will be easy!

The Loyal Three had not expected to be brought back from the dead either, and the first thing they saw upon waking was their boss.

But what had happened back then had left deep psychological scars on them, so...

"Pecha~dai~!"

Pecharunt told them not to worry. It had learned something interesting from the humans, namely that there was some kind of mochi from nowhere, covered in special seasonings. Eat that mochi, and your power rises dramatically!

It's even better than the toxic mochi I used to give you!

Pecharunt signaled to the controlled administrator behind it, who brought over Kitakami mochi. The three poisonous beasts looked at one another, then devoured it greedily.

A surge of real power began rising inside them.

"Bandit, monkey, courtesan. In the end, you're just three second-rate thugs."

Hikaru's voice rang down from the sky. The Loyal Three jerked their heads upward, and Pecharunt lifted its gaze too.

Then it saw its mortal enemy.

"Pecha-dai!"

"Gao-pon!"

Ogerpon descended into Loyalty Plaza and, with her mask on, let out an angry cry!

Hundreds of years of hatred!

Here and now, it would all end!

Pecharunt also sensed the special power surging from Ogerpon. It was the energy of foreign crystals, burning stronger than ever.

One, two, three, four... seven, eight, nine?!

So there were not just four masks. There were nine?!

Then those masks are all mine too!

Go, all of you!

Watching Ogerpon face multiple enemies at once, Kieran knew she was not really alone, since there were other Pokémon helping her. But even so, the sight before him...

It looked exactly like the oni of legend, standing against many foes through sheer personal strength.

So cool, seriously so cool!

He wanted to become as cool as the oni in the story too. He wanted to become someone who could stand on his own and handle things by himself. If he could grow strong enough, then maybe he really could become friends with the oni. They said powerful oni revealed themselves in battle...

So maybe the oni was not only Mr. Oni. Maybe this Pokémon called Ogerpon was part of that too...?

If only he could become as strong as they were.

If only.
