Chapter 559 558: Catching up..
Back at the castle...
Muku brought Klaus and Chris over for a chat after getting a tour of the Mayan Kingdom.
After all, Jade hadn't gone with them, so the brothers had to come over.
"Hey, now that we're back at your place, can you tell us how y'all reached R9 so quickly. I know you're more talented than me. But this is a bit too absurd even for you. Especially when all of you are apparently PR9. One or two would have barely been understandable. But all??!" Klaus finally asked the question he had been wanting to ask since he found out their strength.
"There really is some secret technique to it. Just non-stop cultivation under sped-up time with help from the strongest Monarch in the Beast World," Muku replied straightforwardly.
"Wtf?! What's simple about that?!" Chris, who was hearing everything from the sidelines, lost his cool for the first time.
"Calm down, bro. This isn't anything new for them. While I'll admit that this is definitely the most shocking thing they have done so far, do you gotta act so shocked?" Klaus addressed his brother after gathering himself a bit.
Though he was just as surprised as Chris. Just that he reacted internally and recovered quickly.
After all, a lot of things Muku casually said were enough to set anyone off. Then the biggest bomb came when he mentioned being helped by a Monarch. And not just any Monarch, but the strongest Monarch too.
The same one whom they all assumed was leading the invasion. So what the hell was going on? Were Muku and his group traitors? But if that was the case, they wouldn't have taken out those beasts, would they?
Did they even take them out? But there were beast cores to be shown afterwards. So they did it right? Or were the beast cores replicas?... What the hell was going on?
Klaus was so confused. He wanted to trust them, but he couldn't. He wanted to suspect them, but he also couldn't.
And so, he looked at Muku for answers.
"Tsk. Why are you looking at him like that? Do you think we betrayed humanity and joined the beasts or something? Hell, even if we did, do you think we cared enough about the race for it to be called a betrayal?" Jade's annoyed voice was heard as he calmly walked down the stairs to meet her brothers for the first time in years.
Hearing her speak cleared all of Klaus's worries. For she was telling the truth. No matter what they did, there was never a point in time when they claimed to be fighting for humanity. Even when they were still relatively weak but the strongest in the world, they didn't try to unite the humans.
And they wanted no part in his mission. They have never been sneaky, nor have they been against humanity. They just lived for themselves in the grey area. Neither good nor bad.
So instead of assuming what most likely wasn't. It was better to just ask.
"Hello, sister. You're right. I was thinking like that. For that, I apologize. However, I'd like to know the details of what happened and where you stand, if you don't mind," Klaus replied calmly after gathering himself.
The expected heartwarming scene when he, Chris, and Jade reunite didn't happen. It would have happened if Jade rushed over like usual, but this time she looked pleased to see them, and that was all. There seemed to be a quiet maturity that kept her from doing anything else.
It made Klaus feel a bit sad, wondering what she went through to gain that power. But he had to put that aside for now. Other matters needed to be taken care of.
"Why are you suddenly speaking like a stranger brother-in-law? Anyway, of course, I don't mind going into detail for you. We're family after all," Muku spoke with a smile on his face.
He then went on to tell Klaus about what happened in the Beast World. Of course, he didn't mention Mrs C since it was an unwritten law not to mention her unless she's around to give the go-ahead.
Anyway, he told the brothers about his ability to control everything in his embryo, including time, and how Althea helped them cultivate.
Everything he could reveal, he revealed. There were some paths he left blank, which the brothers understood. After all, not everything could be casually exposed.
"...Unfortunately, the method is now unusable, so we can't help you. And I'm not sure if she would have been willing either," Muku finished explaining while looking towards Althea, who then looked away.
Clearly unwilling to help strangers.
"No, no. It's fine. It was your opportunity. But to think you managed to befriend a Monarch. As expected of my sworn brother, I guess. So what's your purpose now? I mean, with a Monarch backing you, even if they aren't part of the war. As the strongest, they can easily shield you from it all, right? So you don't even need to be here doing anything," Klaus replied happily and asked another thing.
"Well, you're kinda right. But we've discovered that the other Monarchs are after this place for some plan that will likely take everyone else out of the equation. So while we are definitely safe for now, we can't let them have what they want, as it would definitely come to bite us if they catch up to her in strength, since she's already reached the peak. Not to mention that there are some scores to be settled with some of the Monarchs. Especially Ares, that bastard. It's a matter personal to Jade as well as the rest of us for how he harassed and almost killed me a few times," Muku replied truthfully.
"Oh, so we're really on the same side then. Even if we're doing it for humanity and you're doing it for freedom and settling scores. That makes me happy. Let's work together and take care of this beast threat then..." Klaus replied while extending his hand to Muku.
"Sure," Muku shook his hand with the same enthusiasm.
What he didn't tell Klaus was that there was a third reason. And that was the bleeding sky. This involved his mother, who was probably the one keeping that event from happening at that very moment.
So honestly, the Monarchs, despite their universal strength, were just a pit stop for him. He needed real power. Power that was unimaginable even to Monarchs. Power of the same level as his mother, if not greater.
And honestly, for the time being, he had no idea how he would achieve it or when, but he couldn't give up. The hope of everyone he cared about rested on him.
"Now that you know about what we've been up to. Tell us about you. I mean, we already know about how you joined Mayan and all. But what about recent history? I remember you mentioning something about Chris losing a limb on a mission. What's up with that?" Muku asked curiously.
"Oh, that. It's quite funny, actually. This idiot, who's always telling me to be careful, was careless and lost an arm when we were investigating the Tactoa forbidden zone... oh yeah, when you left, it was still a headquarters. Well, soon after the chaos began, it exploded into pitch-black mist that attacks those who get too close with tentacles. Interestingly enough, the stronger you are, the stronger the attack. Also, weaker people can get closer before they are attacked compared to stronger ones. And using your divine sense to probe the area might turn you mad. For that reason, people are sent there to monitor the situation. After all, it is mostly a contained non-factor for now. Who knows what will happen in the future? Unfortunately, for the humans, it's usually us. I'm not complaining since it's relatively safer than most of the missions in outer space. But it sucks to be the default, you know..." Klaus started yapping on and on about this and that. Completely forgetting about Chris at some point.
Muku and the girls just figured that Chris got hit by one of those tentacles when he wasn't paying attention. Which Klaus eventually confirmed.
"Well, now. That sounds quite intriguing. Maybe we should go and check it out," Althea spoke before Muku could.
After all, an ancient Monarch she knew nothing about was involved. So she had to know what was going on.
"Sure. We'll take you there anytime. However, we won't be getting too close. And we suspect that the zone is slowly expanding in size and reach. Even for weaker people. So let me warn you in advance. Don't let your gu... tsk. What am I talking about? You're a Monarch, so you don't need to worry about anything." Klaus was busy warning Althea when he remembered something.
It wasn't his fault, as Althea was too quiet and unnoticeable around strangers. And she lacked that overbearing aura you'd expect from Monarchs (which she was actively suppressing as it still leaked through the seal). So it was easy to forget her origin and just think of her as another powerful beauty at Muku's side.
Speaking of which, Klaus was extremely jealous. Like, why was it Muku was the only one getting beauty after beauty? Was he any less of a man?
Sure, his Gene was enough for him, and she would kill him then herself if he even tried such a thing, but still. It was so unfair.
And this beauty was even a Monarch! What kind of luck was that?! Sure, there was no way she and Muku would have anything going on. But the fact that they knew each other was enough to be jealous.
Only if he knew that Muku was in the process of claiming her. He would have died from absolute jealousy...
