Chapter 1315 - 97: Mutations on All Sides (Part 3)
Amidst the ruins of the burning embers and the ground littered with corpses, York clenched the Thorny Pain Lock tightly, gasping for breath as the horrific burns on his body healed visibly. This morning’s surprise attack indeed killed many, but York, relying on the Blood of the Night Race, revived once more.
York hasn’t been a field staff for long. He hasn’t even recognized the full number of people in the so-called Special Operations Group. To the mysterious Order Bureau, York has no sense of belonging, let alone fighting for the Order Bureau.
But Gray Stone Town is different.
York has spent most of his life here. Even without any personal gain, his heart still belongs to this land; he loves it deeply.
The familiar homeland turned to scorched earth.
York shouted uncontrollably, the Thorny Pain Lock was heavily wrapped around him, embedding into his flesh, the chain laden with spikes swept like thousands of blades, slashing and chopping anything that came near into pieces.
"He doesn’t seem very respectful towards you," Hammer noticed York’s fierce expression, "Should we deal with him?"
"No," the Regent King shook his head, "I quite admire this guy."
"But he blocked our path." Yidir said.
The Regent King laughed ironically, his gaze wandered between Yidir and Hammer, then he extended his hands, placing them on both their shoulders.
"No one can block our path."
In an instant, the colors that filled the world began to distort and invert in Yidir and Hammer’s eyes, like a strange hallucination. An inexplicable sense of detachment arose between them, eliminating any signs of blood, burnt odors, scorching winds, or chaotic sounds...
Everything receded until the world became silent, until only the three of them remained.
"Let’s go, advance through the Mirror World to avoid many people."
The Regent King turned to lead the way, his gaze cutting across the Gray Stone Rift, directly towards the Abandoned Land.
Shortly after the three of them entered the Mirror World, several chains fiercely struck the place they had just been, shattering the ground, spikes diving deep into the scorched earth. With a powerful tug, York pulled the chains, leapt through the corpse crowd.
He growled bloodthirstily, scanning around but failed to spot the Regent King and others, awaiting him were only encroaching zombies and enslaved bloodthirsty ones.
Looking at those familiar yet broken faces, York’s mind faltered, even his rampant fury cooled slightly.
He stood bewildered, like a helpless child, tears uncontrollably spilling from his eyes, then bursting into endless raging fire.
Blood soaked the Original Sin Armament, the Thorny Pain Lock burrowing into York’s body like a swarm of snakes, he was wrapped tightly by endless thorns, swaying and brandishing.
The myriad thorny branches wildly flung their sharp edges, chopping everything that stood in their path, mercilessly sweeping the earth.
The spikes sharp and fierce, pierced through all like a sharp sword, whether twisted zombies or frenzied bloodthirsty ones, all shattered under the ravaging thorns, the surface of the scorched earth scarred and damaged from the thorny spread.
Roars echoed successively, the Night Race and zealots launched a fierce attack on York, but their assault was flattened by the Power of Fury before it even reached.
York still remembered that night’s deep reflection, maybe there were no gods in this world.
But someone still had to uphold that so-called morality, even if it meant falling into greater evil.
"I dedicate everything... to you."
York whispered, sharp thorns pierced through his heart.
The Night Race and zealots attempted to advance, suddenly the ground split open, lethal thorns emerged, fierce winds swept across the land, ruthlessly destroying everything.
York’s figure became increasingly blurred until completely obscured by thorns, leaving only the twisted and detestable creation traversing the earth.
...
The astronaut turned back, noticing Sai Zong abruptly stalled in place, he asked, "What’s wrong?"
Sai Zong deeply inhaled, as though smelling the distant smoke of war, his gaze complex.
"Someone has awakened the Original Sin Armament."
"Oh?" The astronaut was somewhat surprised, "Will this affect you in any way?"
"Not much impact... at least for now."
"Will this affect what’s coming?" the astronaut asked again.
Sai Zong pondered for a moment, replied, "Who knows? This is pure war, and the purer it is, the more chaotic it often becomes."
A light laugh sounded beneath the heavy spacesuit; the astronaut no longer delved into it, but urged, "We should hurry, or else they’ll truly break into the Holy City."
"Were you purposely forcing them?" Sai Zong suddenly questioned.
"Who knows?"
The astronaut provided an uncertain answer, "Maybe I’m just using others’ hands, in a way that fools everyone, to erase any remaining evidence?"
"As long as that city is completely ruined, no one will ever know the truth of the Fall of the Holy City."
